From 25th February 2009, 14 Ede people from Ky village (Buon Ma Thuot city, Daklak) were invited to renovate their long house at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology.
Among them, 6 people had been in the group who came to build the house at the Museum.
The house is located in the open-air exhibition of the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology since 2000, in order to introduce the architecture and their typical way of life of the Ede, a matrilineal ethnic group in the Central Highlands. From the exact house of Mrs. H’ Đách Êban made in 1967 in Ky village, the VME bought the remains of the house and invited 16 people right from Ky village to re-build the house in Hanoi with the materials from Daklak, the hometown of the house.
After 8 years exhibited for visitors, the roof and the floor of the house was damaged. The renovation this time is also done by the Ede from Ky village. It is the policy of the VME that respects the subject of a culture when preserving the culture both of a community and for a community.
The reparation of the Ede long house is expected to finish in about 40 days.
