Special exhibitions

Tai textiles in the Mekong region Continuity and change

INTRODUCTION

This exhibition is the result of joint research, collection, and exchange between the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, the Institute of Cultural Research in Laos, the Yunnan Nationalities Museum, and scholars from Thammasat University (Bangkok, Thailand), supported by the Rockefeller Foundation. It is part of the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology’s on-going programme, “Building networks with museums and cultural institutions in Southeast Asia and the region.” That programme seeks collaborative relationships and promotes the representation of the region’s peoples and cultures at the museum. The Tai textile project opens the door for future collaborations between Vietnam and other Southeast Asian nations on museum activities including research, collection, exhibition, conservation, demonstration, and publication, with special attention to exhibit exchanges and training. These activities will contribute to the promotion of mutual understanding among the peoples of Southeast Asia.
